It was with much excitement that we read TNT's announcement that "SouthLAnd" will be returning for a 3rd season. This is great news for TV and even better news for LA as the show has so many location shoots which means more work for local crews as well as realistic portrayals of the city. Be sure to check out our interviews with series stars Ben McKenzie and Tom Everett Scott.
As anticipated, HBO's Saturday broadcast of You Don't Know Jack was phenomenal - Al Pacino was brilliant and the film was so well done, it's definitely getting Emmy nominations and probably some wins. Watch it on reruns or OnDemand. Similarly, "Breaking Bad" continues to be one of the best programs on television - last night's episode was suspenseful and intense from start to finish. Be sure to check out our interview with series star Dean Norris, who plays DEA agent Hank Schrader, who provides some great perspective on his character and the series.
Stephen King fans should be excited that a director has finally been selected forhis new Syfy series, "Haven". Adam Kane from "The Mentalist" and "Heroes" has begun production on the pilot in Nova Scotia. We can't find a broadcast date for the 13 planned episodes.
Tonight: It's all about Showtime from 10-11pm with excellent episodes of "Nurse Jackie" and "The United States of Tara", particularly the latter as you will see why chameleon Toni Collette is winning Emmys and Golden Globes left and right for her incredible portrayal of Tara Gregson.
Variety has a great article about how TV and radio news reporting fit into public/non-profit schemes being discussed for newspapers. If newspapers can't be kept alive in the marketplace, why would TV and radio be interested in supporting hard news programming?
