TV Junkie: 'Better Off Ted' Returns; 'Alice' Criticism; TV Beats Web

"Better Off Ted" returns tonight - 9:30pm on ABC
The Twitterverse was abuzz with mentions of TNT's "Men of a Certain Age" which premiered yesterday - the show scored as the top new series launch for basic cable this year. In the meantime, check out our interview with series star Andre Braugher who had a powerful performance in the pilot.Tonight we're looking forward to the return of "Better Off Ted" on ABC at 9pm as well as the finale of "The Biggest Loser" because that will mean it's off the air for a while.

Did anybody watch Syfy's "Alice"? With stunning set designs and an impressive cast that included Kathy Bates, Tim Curry, Harry Dean Stanton, and Matt Frewer the show turned out to be nothing more than the jumbled result of the brown acid everyone was warned about at Woodstock. This interpretation was in sharp contrast to Syfy's mostly excellent take on The Wizard of Oz in 2007's "Tin Man" (mostly because the last 15 minutes just plain sucked). C'mon Syfy, what's next, Jack and Jill?

The LA Times had a write-up of Lost University, a set of courses covering themes that come up in the "Lost" series (philosophy, physics, hieroglyphics, etc.) - courses that are only accessible if you have purchased the Blu-ray discs of the series.

NBC will air a Saturday Night Live Christmas special on December 17th at 8pmto be hosted by Kristin Wiig's Gilly character. We think Wiig is probably SNL's greatest asset but for the two-hour "SNL Presents: A Very Gilly Christmas" to be hosted by what is probably her weakest character seems like a mistake. We'll still be watching.
