TV Junkie: 'Mad Men' Premieres Tonight at 7:00 p.m.
I haven't been a big fan of AMC since they started running commercials and doing Friday the 13th marathons but I can give anything a second chance sometimes to a fault, just look at some of the girlfriends I stayed with 18 months longer than I should have.
Premiering tonight at 7:00 p.m. on AMC is 'Mad Men', the creation of Matthew Weiner (of 'Sporanos' fame). The series is all about Madison Avenue ad men back in the heyday of the early 1960s. Get ready for heavy drinking and mysogyny - things have changed SO much in business haven't they? It's a cutthroat world where the account is king and everyone's trying to push their way up any ladder that they can get to without revealing any of their secrets, insecurities, or character flaws.
The hype is that every episode could be a standalone movie, completely stylized, and well shot. The cast is primarily no name bit players - yeah, there's some guy from 'Angel', and some of the other cast have huge lists of bit parts but thankfully this is a series that isn't built around some big name so the writing and acting have to stand on their own.
Here's to second chances and to a 7:00 p.m. martini.
