There's some great productions opening around town this weekend -- here's a sampling:

Bad Seed
Buzzworks Theater Company puts on a comic remake of Bad Seed, written by Maxwell Anderson in the 1950s and banned for its homosexual references and other Freudian theories. It’s the story of an 8-year-old murderess born without pity. We can’t wait for this one!

Lounge Theatre. 6201 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles. 323.960.5563. Tickets are $25-$30. Opens Saturday at 8 pm (THIS SHOW IS SOLD OUT.) But it runs Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm until Aug. 25.

One Act Marathon: A Woman’s Place
The Attic Theatre is holding its annual showcase of winning one-act plays. This year’s winners (two comedies, two dramas) are written by by Richard Davis, Jr., Donald Steele, Rosemary Frisino Toohey and Danielle Wolff.

West Fest 07 – Week One
Theatre West, one of Los Angeles’ oldest theater companies, is holding its own play festival for the next two weekends. Week one features plays by Roy Battocchio, Howard Korder and Laura Campbell. Week two’s plays were written by Drew Katzman, Heather Chapman and Matthew Hoffman.

Theatre West. 3333 Cahuenga Blvd. West. Hollywood. 323.851.7977. Tickets are $15. Week One runs this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8 pm. Week Two runs July 27-29 at 8 pm.

New Original Works Festival: Program One
REDCAT at Walt Disney Concert Hall is holding its own festival this weekend, featuring dance-theater and spoken-word performances by Elke Luyten and Kira Alker, the Tijuana-based Lux Boreal Danza Contemporánea and Rodney Mason.

REDCAT at Walt Disney Concert Hall. 631 W. 2nd St., L.A. Tickets $18. 213.237.2800. Program One opens tonight at 8:30 pm and runs Friday at Saturday at 8:30 pm.

Shakespeare in the (WeHo) Parks
Beginning this weekend, the Classical Theatre Lab and the City of West Hollywood present FREE Shakespeare in the Parks, beginning this weekend with the bard's rom-com: The Two Gentlemen of Verona.

At Plummer Park's Fiesta Hall Courtyard. 7377 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood. Reservations: 323.960.5691. FREE. Opens Saturday at 5 pm. Also runs July 22, 28 and 29 at 5 pm.
