Supernova Shocker: Ryan Gets the Boot

Ryan Star, the "darkhorse" of the Supernova singing competition, has sung his last note for Tommy Lee and the boys.

While the band members agreed that Ryan was the performer who's shown the most growth throughout the season, they felt he wasn't right for the band and let him go. Most of the audience and contestants were in shock, since Storm Large's performance shouting of "Helter Skelter" was pretty much unbearable.

Now we're not saying that Ryan would have won the competition -- he was much too theatrical -- he should have been able to stay for at least one more week. (Really, Ryan, do you think that opening a champagne bottle at the beginning of The Who's "Baba O' Riley" was really necessary?)

LAist was disappointed in almost all of the performances last night -- except for Toby's encore of "Rebel Yell." We didn't enjoy Lukas' vocals on the original Supernova track, and even the usually entertaining Dilana made a misstep last night singing "Psycho Killer." For some reason all those "fa fa fa's" didn't work for us.

So we'll see what happens next Tuesday night -- and hopefully our eardrums will have recovered from last night's show.
