here are two kinds of people: those who love the velvet teen and those who haven't heard of them yet. happily i fall into the former, and caught the july 28 show at the knitting factory.

at one point i was so overcome by the lush and unique vocals and the masterful drumming (and the beers) that i entered a zen-like trance right there on the side couches. i was not the only one affected so strongly: a young gentleman (of which there were many at this particular show, girls) slouched over to my couch and fell into what i am sure was a similar trance. he became so overwhelmed with knowledge and hope and light through the velvet teen's harmonies that his body could not handle the influx of nirvana and he crashed sideways into me, disturbing my own meditation. he then curled into the fetal position, no doubt recreating the womb experience in an attempt to connect with the Mother Spirit. i wish him the best of luck.

the velvet teen, from san francisco area, are currently touring in support of their new album "cum laude," so they played lots of new and delicious material. they also played favorites off "elysium" and "out of the fierce parade." pick up their new album, it's AWESOME. pick up their other ones too. i believe in them so strongly i will make you a mix cd of their stuff if you email me. then you and a tall can of pabst and a disc full of glory can reach enlightenment. it feels good. like kittens.
