It's that time of the year again, when locals dress up in their most festive gear and march through the city in the name of Christmas cheer. We’re talking about SantaCon, that annual, nation-wide phenomenon in which hoards of Santas take to the streets.

This year, L.A.’s SantaCon started at the Barney’s Beanery in Santa Monica at 10 a.m on Saturday. From there, the Santas proceeded on a massive bar-hop around the Westside. The revelers checked in at watering holes such as Freddy Smalls, Plan B, and Fantasy Island, which is noted for their, uh, mature entertainment. The Santas even dropped by Tongva Park for a brief respite:

The massive gathering was guided by the event's Twitter, which pointed the way to the next location.

You may be wondering how such a large group of partiers were able to gather and mobilize. Did they require the aid of an Airbus A380-sized sleigh? They took to Metro, actually, which the event leveraged to help everyone get to where they needed to be:

As evidenced in the photos, some participants went down a less-beaten path and eschewed the Santa get-up. Some came as penguins and elves. Some also added variations to their Saint Nick costume; one guy was decked out in some Aladdin Sane facepaint, and another dude devised a sort of steampunk outfit. There was also a S&M reindeer in attendance. The whole affair was a dichotomy of naughty and nice.
