The Korean rapper Psy has a message for the mayor of El Monte: rehire the lifeguards you fired.

Thirteen lifeguards were fired for spending their breaks making a video remake of Psy's crossover hit video Gangnam Style. The mayor defended his decision, saying that the city couldn't make exceptions just because people happened to love the video (and watch it more than 1.3 million times). He said even though they didn't make the video on the clock, he didn't approve of them filming on city property and wearing their city uniforms.

Like thousands of other fans, Psy wants the mayor to rethink his decision: "When I'm a big star here, I really want to help them out because that's not fair."

He told MTV News: "What did they do? They weren't wrong. It was off-duty — that's what I heard. It was off-duty. They can be more flexible."
