The 25-member Silver Lake Chorus celebrates its one-year anniversary tonight at 7 pm at the Echo Park United Methodist Church. The chorus—who performs choral arrangements of indie tunes—will be performing original material written for them by Beck, Sia, Of Montreal, Aimee Mann, The Bird and the Bee, Tegan and Sara, Zooey Deschanel, and Justin Vernon (Bon Iver). John Gold opens with an acoustic set.

Tonight Gallery1988 (Melrose) opens The Great Showdowns solo show from NY artist Scott Campbell. The exhibition holds more than 200 of his signature Showdown paintings, which pin two of pop culture's most intense rivals against each other. The opening reception is tonight from 7-10 pm.

Art gallery openings, food trucks, restaurant and bar specials , music and lots of people watching at First Friday on Abbot Kinney tonight from 5:30 pm-12:30 am. Three examples: The Brig has $5 Absolut original or flavored cocktails (while supplies last, extra for martinis), Topo Ranch features cold beer and the acoustic music of John Hanft and Samantha Yonack from 7:30 - 9:30 pm; and a special menu and DJ at Joe's (one of our favorites).
