Here's what's going on around town tonight: A silent serial screening of the first episodes of The Mystery of the Double Cross; Will Sergeant's (Echo & the Bunnymen) first solo U.S. art show; Kina Grannis at the Ford Amphitheatre; Slake readings and more. Tonight at 7:30 pm at the Spielberg Theatre at the Egyptian, American Cinematheque screens The Mystery Of The Double Cross, Episodes 1-8 (Retroformat 8mm serial) with live piano accompaniment by Cliff Reallick. It’s all cloak and dagger when a man receives a mysterious telegram warning him to “beware the Double Cross” while on a steamship to America to claim his inheritance. Tickets: $11.

Tonight the Substrate Fine Art Gallery holds an opening reception for Will Sergeant’s My Own Worst Enemy art exhibition from 7-11 pm. The show marks the first major exhibition for Sergeant—guitarist for Echo & the Bunnymen. The show features Sergeant’s abstracts, collages and screen prints.

Tonight the Ford Amphitheater welcomes singer-songwriter and YouTube star Kina Grannis tonight at 8 pm. Bring a picnic, wine and catch the show under the stars at one of our favorite outdoor venues. Tickets: $21.

Two things for our Valley readers, so you don't have to travel too far from home: SkyPilot Theatre Company holds its 3rd annual Karaoke FUNdraisertonight at 8 pm at the Casting Office Bar and Grille in Studio City. $10 donation gets five tickets to raffle prizes. They’re also holding a Musical Theatre Karaoke contest with prizes for the winners. The Lalas, an LA-based performance troupe perform at the Federal Bar in NoHo starting at 8:30 pm tonight. $15 General Admission (standing room only).

Skylight Books hosts readings from Slake Issue 4, featuring writers Luke Davis, Joseph Mattson, Melissa Chadburn, Sam Slovick and Clay Steakley. The stories in the issue focus on "Dirt": dirty politics, dirty air, dirty gossip, dirty sex, dirty family secrets and the dirt beneath our feet.
