LAist has an outstanding group of theater writers, among them Mialka Bonadonna, Terry Morgan and Lyle Zimskind, who are passionate about the local scene and community.

Lyle summed up our sentiments on LA theater perfectly: “LA dramaturgs and critics may lament that many of the best contemporary plays never make it here, but one thing our theater community does have going for it is the deepest pool of fantastic actors you'll find anywhere in the country. At the Eclectic Company Theatre in Valley Village or the Katselas in Los Feliz, along the Santa Monica Boulevard theater row in Hollywood or Lankershim Boulevard in NoHo, whether the venue seats 40 or 400, your chance of catching a performance that persists in bouncing around your consciousness for hours, days or weeks after the lights go up is well worth betting an evening on.”

We asked the three of them for their favorite productions from the past year and the reasons for their selections. Their picks are posted in the gallery above, in no particular order.
