Ohio State #1?
The nightmares of all nightmares have happened. Ohio State will now be in the BCS Championship game by virtue of being ranked third in the BCS and both #1 Missouri losing to Oklahoma and #2 West Virginia losing to Pittsburgh in the Backyard Brawl.
How the fuck is this happening? I thought once the Buckeyes lost to Illinois at home on November 10 they would effectively be gone from any discussion about a National Championship.
I will give some credit to the Buckeyes for having only one loss. But they sure as hell had a lot of help with their schedule.
First of all, have you seen their non conference schedule? Youngstown State, Akron, at Washington and Kent State. Youngstown State is in the Football Championship Subdivision (Division I-AA), Akron went 4-8, Washington went 4-9 and Kent State went 3-9. That must have been a nightmare schedule, right? I guess Notre Dame wasn’t available for a game.
Then look at the conference they play in: the Big Ten. Their hardest opponent was a Michigan team that lost to FCS Appalachian State to open their season. And their one loss was to an inferior but good Illinois team in their home field!
So who should be in the BCS Championship Game? I don’t know. Perhaps LSU and Oklahoma. How about LSU and Georgia? All I know is when the BCS rankings and bowl selections are released tomorrow night at 5pm, I will have a bottle of Zantac close by.
