Last night, LAist had the opportunity to cover a panel featuring the cast and producers of FOX's New Girl at PaleyFest, the Paley Center's two-week homage to television shows. We also got a chance to quickly chat up two of the series stars, Jake Johnson (Nick) and Lamorne Morris (Winston) in the press room before the panel.

Here are 10 things we learned last night from the hilarious New Girl team:

10. Johnson told us in the press room that his favorite scene this season was "the kiss" between Nick and Jess, played by Zooey Deschanel. (Like their relationship, the kiss is both awkward and passionate at the same time.)

9. Deschanel thinks that the best TV comparison to the Nick/Jess pairing is the Sam and Diane relationship in Cheers.

8. When an audience member asks the cast whether they'd be friends with their characters in real life, Lamorne Morris is the only one to answer: Winston's "cool as hell."

7. Deschanel and Hannah Simone (Cece) talked about a memorable boob slapping scene, filmed in a sweltering warehouse in Downtown LA. Deschanel said the scene has the best foley.

6. Greenfield surprised us by telling us that the cast doesn't improvise much on camera.

5. Johnson said that he added the hands to the "awkward moonwalk" that was described in a script. He demonstrated, delighting an already pumped-up audience.

4. Show creator Elizabeth Meriwether (who looked like a blonde version of Deschanel with her big glasses) said that they wanted to include something political during last year's presidential election. The result? Schmidt's alter ego, Tug Romney:

3. The gang travels to Chicago for an upcoming episode to meet Nick's family after his father passes away. Special guests in the episode, which was directed by Jake Kasdan, include Margo Martindale, Nick Kroll and Bill Burr.

2. Deschanel said that while there are no rules to game True American (an over-the-top game in which you basically avoid touching the floor while drinking beer), there is a secret song.

1. Meriwether said that they're working on a flashback episode now about how they all lost their virginity. We hear [fat] Schmidt's experience includes a lube mishap. We can't wait.

New Girl has been picked up for a third season. The next new episode airs on Tuesday, March 19 at 9 pm.
