Photos: Luchadores And Burlesque Ring In Cinco De Mayo At Lucha VaVoom [NSFW]
What better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than with some luchadores and a "saucy striptease?"
Lucha VaVoom, Los Angeles' premiere mashup of comedy, burlesque and lucha libre (Mexican masked wrestling), took to the Mayan Theatre on Thursday night for their fourteenth year of performances. "Sexo y violencia" is the name of the game with Lucha VaVoom. They even like to throw in a little juvenile humor. Last night's villainous heel—Dirty Sanchez—flung "poop" at anyone within his line of fire, including audience members and referees. ¡Repugnante!
After a decade of shows you tend to get a pretty devout following, as evidenced by the spectators who joined in with their own colorful costumes and masks. Outside, a mariachi band welcomed guests as they poured into the historic downtown theater, and even served as the intro fanfare for the night's show.
Don't worry if you're getting a case of FOMO over last night's show. The luchadores will be performing again tonight, as well as at their first ever championship match on June 2.
Lucha VaVoom performs at the Mayan Theatre, located at 1038 S Hill St. in downtown. Check website for listings.
