St. Louis Cardinals defeat LA Dodgers 6-4 (11 innings). ANDRUW JONES HIT A HOME RUN! He got things going in the top of the ninth with the Dodgers down 4-0 on the second pitch thrown by Cardinals reliever Ron Villone and took it over the left center bullpen. Closer Jason Isringhausen immediately came into the game, and Isringhausen was being Isringhausen by blowing the save and allowing the Dodgers to tie the game 4-4. Manny Ramirez was 2-for-3 with two walks scoring once. But Ryan Ludwick showed why he was NL Player of the Week for last week by hitting a shot straight to center for the walk-off homer. The game was twice interrupted by rain delays.

Baltimore Orioles defeat LA Angels 3-0. Tired of the dramatics from their last two games, the Angels decided to lose in a more conventional fashion. They couldn't do anything off of Mr. To Be Announced, Chris Waters making his first Major League start. In eight innings the Angels managed just one hit and three walks off of Waters. While Angels starter Jon Garland wasn't bad (7 innings, three runs on nine hits), he just wasn't good enough. However reliever Shane Loux was just as lights out as Waters pitching two innings of relief for the Angels giving up only one walk. Loux has a great story, and it's very nice to see him do well in his first appearance.

Notable Notes

  • In today's episode of Days of Our Favres, one day after Brett Favre reported to training camp in Green Bay and was reinstated as a active player with the Packers, Favre left the premises and will not be a Packer. Make it of what you will.
  • LeBron James to Europe? You've got to be kidding me! I know it's a slow time of the year for sports news, but talk about slinging shit to the wall and seeing what sticks.
  • Jim Caple of Page 2 on ESPN.com wrote a really nice piece on how overrated the closing pitcher position is. Just some mind candy for y'all.
