Chicago White Sox defeat LA Angels 4-1. They waited for the rain to pass, but the Angels still couldn’t muster a win against the White Sox. Jered Weaver (8-4) gave up all four runs in his 6 1/3 innings of work including two homers by Alex Rios and Andruw Jones. Meanwhile White Sox starter Jake Peavy had to leave the game while pitching to Mike Napoli with two outs in the second inning. He strained his side and will likely have to go on the disabled list. Tony Peña (2-1) though took up the slack in getting the win going 4 1/3 innings of relief giving up only one run on five hits. Bobby Jenks recorded his 18th save.

LA Dodgers defeat Florida Marlins 7-3. Read my recap of the game.

  • DON’T FORGET ABOUT US! It took a while, but the Clippers have finally found their new head coach: former Chicago Bulls’ head coach Vinny Del Negro. Del Negro will be taking over a team that went 29-63 under Mike Dunleavy and interim head coach Kim Hughes. Along with Del Negro, Dallas Mavericks assistant and former Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Dwane Casey was also in the running for the Clippers job. The details of the deal haven’t been finalized.
  • USC A BIT LIGHTER. USC Trojans’ football head coach Lane Kiffin announced that the school would be releasing offensive tackle recruit Seantrel Henderson from his letter of intent. One of the nation’s top offensive line recruits, Henderson was also considering the University of Miami, Ohio State University and his hometown University of Minnesota during the recruiting process. After delaying his signing of his letter of intent for fears of sanctions to the USC program, he finally signed prior to the NCAA’s disclosure of their findings. The 6-foot-7, 295 pound Henderson can sign with any school without penalty.
  • FOUL PLAY. Play was stopped for 16 minutes at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington when a fan fell from the second deck onto the field level seats during a game between the Cleveland Indians and the Texas Rangers. In the bottom of the fifth inning with the Rangers leading 3-1, a male fan from the club level attempted to grab a foul ball hit by Nelson Cruz. He lost his balance and fell about 30 feet to the seats below leaving everyone in the ballpark shocked into silence - fans, umpires and players alike. The fan is in stable condition while four fans in the field level seats only suffered minor injuries. It amazes me that this doesn’t happen more often.
  • WEAVER UNSNUBBED. American League All Star manager Joe Girardi announced on Tuesday that Angels’ starter Jered Weaver will replace Yankees’ starter CC Sabathia on the squad. Since Sabathia will be pitching on Sunday, he will not be able to pitch the game next Tuesday. Girardi will now have to announce a replacement for Weaver since Weaver will also be pitching on Sunday. Makes perfect sense, right?
