LA Dodgers defeat San Diego Padres 12-4. The Dodgers sure know how to pile it on. Tuesday they scored six runs in the first inning. Wednesday night they scored six runs in their final offensive inning. Everyone got in on the action even Jeff Kent, Juan Pierre and Rafael Furcal. Yes Furcal made his first appearance with the Dodgers since Cinco de Mayo and was inches away from hitting an extra-base hit down the left field line only for it to go foul. He would strike out on the next pitch but come in defensively for the ninth inning. The Dodger's magic number is one. The Diamondbacks play an afternoon game against the Cardinals, so it might be possible for the Dodgers to clinch the division before they even get to the park.

LA Angels defeat Seattle Mariners 6-5. Jon Garland had another shaky outing giving up five runs in five innings on 11 hits. However Mark Teixeira came to the rescue in the eighth inning hitting a solo shot to put the Angels in the lead for good. Francisco Rodriguez got his 62nd save cutting the Angel's magic number down to three for home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Notable Notes

  • The Matt Millen Era is over for the Detroit Lions. Once a linebacker and a game commentator for Fox, the Lions hired Millen in 2001 as their first general manager since 1989. His tenure the Lions who went an NFL-worst 31-84 was marked by horrible free agent signings and awful draft picks. Things got so bad a Detroit radio station hosted a "Millen Man March". Well rest assured ye Detroit faithful, you have a chance of getting out of the quagmire and getting back to your normal rightful place of mediocrity.
  • Speaking of embarassments, has Lane Kiffin been fired from the Raiders yet? Oh wait. Al Davis doesn't want to have to pay Kiffin, so of course he won't fire him. The cheap bastard. And people wonder why the Raiders are a complete joke.
