LA Dodgers defeat Detroit Tigers 4-1. Tigers' starter Dontrelle Willis' two wild pitches and a hit batter was ultimately his demise as the Dodgers scored once in the fourth and three in the fifth off of him for their victory and a share of the NL West lead with the San Diego Padres.

St. Louis Cardinals defeat LA Angels 9-5. Former Dodger pitcher Brad Penny came up to bat for the Cardinals in the fifth inning and belted a grandslam that broke the tie and gave the Cards the 8-4 lead. Joel Pineiro in his return to St. Louis only went three innings for the Angels giving up all nine runs. Penny left the game after his grand slam with a strained right latissimus muscle.
