Oakland A's defeat LA Angels 6-5. Joe Saunders left the game in the second inning. Howie Kendrick and Erick Aybar left the game with sore hammies. Outfielder Juan Rivera forced to come into the game at second base. It was one of those games for the Angels yet they managed to make it close. With Joe Saunders pitching with an ailing hand, he was absolutely crushed by the A's giving up six runs in two innings. He left the game, and the bullpen clamped down on the A's. But the Angels would come back, and they had many chances to actually take the lead but could not capitalize on all the walks the A's were giving away. The Angels got nine hits and eight balls but did their best impersonation of the Dodgers. The difference though is that the Angels actually have the ability to win games.

Washington Nationals defeat LA Dodgers 5-4. Sorry Greg Maddux. Maybe you should've stayed with San Diego after all. Yeah the Dodgers hit three homers, but they still lost to the WORST TEAM IN BASEBALL. Twice. Meanwhile they stay three games behind the Diamondbacks because they lost to the third worst team in baseball (San Diego Padres). Thrice. At this rate Bud Selig should just ban the NL West from sending a team into the postseason.

Notable Notes

  • The San Diego Charger's outstanding linebacker Shawne Merriman decided to forgo surgery on his left knee and play the season. Merriman injured his left knee against the Tennessee Titans last December tearing his posterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments. He managed to play the rest of the 2007 season and into the AFL Championship Game in the playoffs, but he got four different opinions from doctors each telling him to get season-ending surgery. Does anyone outside of the Charger organization think this is a good decision?
  • You know things are slow in sports when the talk shows are focused on the LPGA forcing their players to speak English. With college football starting today, couldn't there be anything else to talk about? Like wondering who will be this year's Appalachian State?
