LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Go on a Fish Fry

LA Dodgers (14-13) defeat Florida Marlins (15-12) 13-1. The Dodgers are an offensive juggernaut on a five-game winning streak. Seriously. Manager Joe Torre made the unprecedented move to use the same lineup two nights in a row, and the Dodgers rewarded him. Rafael Furcal had a career-high five hit game, Russell Martin hit a solo homer in the second inning to lead the scoring and James Loney and Blake DeWitt hit bases-clearing triples in the seventh and eighth innings to blow out the young Marlins. And by the way, Chad Billingsley (1-4) got his first win going seven innings scattering three hits with one earned run and eight strikeouts. The Dodgers had only one five-game winning streak last season.
LA Angels (18-11) defeat Oakland A's (17-12) 6-1. Joe Saunders isn't the only Angel's pitcher to be 5-0. Ervin Santana (5-0) went 6 2/3 innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits. Meanwhile the Angel bats continue to get timely hitting and frustrate the opponent's defense.
Notable Notes
In the aftermath of Tuesday night's NBA games, the Dallas Mavericks fired head coach Avery Johnson. It's a shame because Johnson can't help the fact that his team is filled with a bunch of stiffs who have absolutely no leadership skills. In Phoenix rumors are swirling that Sun's head coach Mike D'Antoni will be out although GM Steve Kerr is denying the reports.
Don't look now, but the best team in baseball is the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 20-8 record. Also the San Francisco Giants aren't as bad as once thought.
This one goes out to all the Chicago Cubs fans here in Los Angeles. Tuesday marked the 25th anniversary of manager Lee Elia's infamous rant during a press conference after a 4-3 loss to the Dodgers. Here's the unedited audio of this rant:
