LA Lakers defeat Denver Nuggets 128-114. Technicals and flagrants and ejections oh my! Nugget's JR Smith got a flagrant foul and four players received technicals: the Laker's Kobe Bryant and the Nugget's Kenyon Martin, Anthony Carter and a double-T for Allen Iverson who was summarily ejected. Pau Gasol in his first ever playoff victory led all scorers with 36 points and Jordan Farmar closed out a 39-22 third quarter with his now routine last second three. Maybe the Nuggets' bus catching fire on the way to Staples Center affected them somehow. Screw the defense, this is going to be a fun series to watch.

Atlanta Braves over LA Dodgers 6-1. The Dodgers kept the game close only trailing 2-1 until Scott Proctor came in relief. In the eighth inning Proctor gave up four runs on five hits and an error to allow the Braves to sweep the Dodgers. Russell Martin belted a pitch to left-center for the Dodger's only run and Andre Ethier made a web gem catch in right field in the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded. I know it's early in the season, but here's something of note: the Dodgers are in last place in the NL West a half game behind the SF Giants.

Dallas Stars defeat Anaheim Ducks 4-1. Both teams looked tentative in the opening period, but after the Ducks scored a goal in the beginning of the second period they seemed content to play not to lose. We all know that is not the way you win games, and thus are eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the first round. The Stars now face the Detroit Red Wings in the second round.

FC Dallas defeats Chivas USA 2-0. Dallas, the lone undefeated team, bookended the game with goals in the fifth minute and 80th minute to stave off a short-handed Chivas team. Chivas was dominant throughout the game however with key players out of the line up, their passing looked anemic.

Seattle Mariners defeat LA Angels 4-2. Mariner's starter Miguel Batista got timely outs in his 7 2/3 inning eight hit shutout of the Angels. The Angels made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth loading the bases twice. However Garret Anderson could not come through in the end striking out looking.

Tonight's Action

LA Dodgers (7-11) at Cincinnati Reds (8-11). I don't know what to say. Brad Penny (2-2) will get the start for the Dodgers facing Matt Belisle (0-0) making his season debut. 4:30 pm KCAL 9, AM 790 KABC.

LA Angels (12-8) at Boston Red Sox (13-7). In the battle of most insufferable fans, the Angels send Jered Weaver (1-3) to the hill to face Josh Beckett (2-1). The only positive thing I can say right now is that at least none of the games will be blacked out on MLB.tv. 4:05 pm KCOP 13, AM 830 KLAA.
