Everything Is Terrible!, those connoisseurs of forgotten videos, have made it their mission to collect every VHS copy of Jerry Maguire in existence. To ask "why?" is to look into the face of futility. The group has decided they're going to amass the largest collection of "Jerrys" (a term coined by the group) and there's absolutely no stopping them.

As we reported back in December, the group had made plans to bring 14,000 of these tapes to a pop-up "video store" to take place at Echo Park's iam8bit, a gallery space that has done everything from a Resident Evil escape room to an exhibit offake movie posters.

The pop-up arrived last Friday, and, as witnessed by our photographer, the store gives exactly what had been promised to us: shelves upon shelves of Jerrys. It wasn't just the collection of tapes that was impressive. As someone who'd once worked at a video store (R.I.P. Hollywood Video), I can tell you that the details are on point. There's the Jerry cardboard cutout, a sign at the counter that reminds customers to rewind their tapes, as well as a very unhelpful "Coming Soon" poster. Even the "employees" are dressed in Jerry fashion, what with the tie and the loosened collar.

Anna Bihari, a gallery manager at iam8bit, told LAist that, since opening last week, the pop-up has attracted a number of (baffled) lookie loos. "There's also been some teenagers who've walked in, and they legitimately have never been in a video store before," said Bihari, which makes some of us feel like a total dinosaur.

If you're wondering if you'd be able to rent the tapes, the answer is no. "We need the tapes here," said Bihari. "How else are we going to build our Jerry pyramid?" (Yes, Everything Is Terrible! intends to build an "enormous, permanent pyramid" somewhere in the desert.)

Aside from the pop-up itself, the space will also be hosting a number of concerts that will include the likes of Yacht and Daedalus. The shows will be hosted in a warehouse space in the back of the gallery. You can find showtimes and buy tickets here.

If you have some copies of Jerry Maguire that you're willing to donate to a good cause, you can reach Everything Is Terrible! here.

And here's a clip of Jerry Maguire to remind us of the phenomenon that took the world by storm in 1996. "Fine! Fine! Fine!"

iam8bit is located at 2147 Sunset Blvd. in Echo Park. The Jerry Maguire Video Store will run till Jan. 29, noon to 10 p.m. each day. You can purchase tickets to events here.
