Performance Event: Casting Call
LAXART in Culver City is putting on an all-day performance event based on something many Angelenos know a lot about: the Casting Call. Today it's the search for a 13-16 year old "California Girl." A windowed divide will create a public viewing room for onlookers of the entire casting process. The selected teen will appear on a Los Angeles billboard in conjunction with LAXART's Billboard Project series in October. 9am-6pm.
Bergamot Station's 15th Anniversary
Bergamot Station is celebrating their 15th anniversary today via several gallery show openings. Join the festivities at Robert Berman, Craig Krull, Mark Moore, Richard Heller and Track 16 at the art destination. 11am-5:30pm.
The Original Long Beach Lobster Festival
The Original Long Beach Lobster Festival continues today (and tomorrow) at Rainbow Lagoon. "Bristol Farms will serve unforgettable Maine Lobster Feasts, steamed to mouth-watering perfection in the world’s largest lobster steamers. Plates include; sweet, succulent lobster, melted butter dipping sauce, fresh cut lemons, coleslaw, dinner roll and watermelon. All lobster flown in nightly from Maine’s salty Atlantic Ocean." Live entertainment today: Little Pookey, Blues Box Bayou Band, Michael John & The Bottom Line, Bonne Musique Zydeco and A.J. The Sound of Music @The New Beverly
It's the debut of a brand new 35mm print of the beloved musical movie classic at the New Beverly, The Sound of Music (1965). Watch Julie Andrews as Maria help the Captain and his seven rambunctious children learn about love...and singing in 1930s Austria. Winner of 5 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. 4 and 8 p.m.
Bigfoot @ Hurley's )( Space Gallery
Help welcome an exhibit of work by Bay Area-based, nature-loving artist BIGFOOT, who has been a major influence in the skateboard industry for more than a decade. The gallery is hosting a fun evening, including live music (DJ JOSHR & KISS tribute band Dressed to Kill) and food trucks (Kogi BBQ and Grill 'Em All). Plus, the skate park will be open during the exhibit event tonight. )( Space Gallery @Hurley's Headquarters, Costa Mesa. 6-10 pm. Free.
