82 home games per season (plus playoffs) isn’t enough Thinking Blue for some local Dodgers aficionados. The community-minded Los Angeles Dodgers of Echo Park (67-43) are picking up that slack, and offering even more chances for local families to enjoy Our Boys in Blue.

Round 1 - Fernandomania ‘09

Dodgers legend (then: star pitcher, now: Spanish-language broadcaster) Fernando Valenzuela, presents the fourth installment of “Los Amigos de Fernando,” Sunday, August 9.

Valenzuela and Los Doyers have given birth to a program which brings children’s groups from around the city to see the ballclub with the best record in the league. Thanks to sponsor Cacique, Fernando’s tiny amigos will get to watch the NL West Champs battle the Atlanta Braves from a luxury suite. (A suite is a very high SPF-rating.)

Round 2 -- Shakey’s Pizza vs. Dodgers Screwballer

Sponsored message

On Monday, August 10, from 6 p.m to 10 p.m., a newly-remodeled Shakey’s Pizza in Culver City (5604 S. Sepulveda Blvd) will host a viewing party for the Dodgers battle against hated rival from up The 5, the San Francisco Giants.

Big screen TVs, fan-favorite Mojo Potatoes, and former Dodgers screwballer, Bobby “Babo” Castillo will come together for a fun night of Dodgers baseball. LA native Castillo, will be signing autographs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., but the Mojo Potatoes will be flowing all night.

The Dodgers street team will be on hand with Dodgers tickets and merchandise. No word on if Shakey’s #1 fan, Eric Cartman from South Park, Colorado, will be on hand.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
