5 Music Events You Shouldn't Miss This Weekend
We'd be remiss if we didn't mention a number of eclectic music events this weekend in LA. While there are plenty of concerts to choose from, here are our top five picks (in no particular order):
Saturdays Off the 405 at the Getty Center is an evening of art and music from 6-9 pm. Performing live in the Getty's courtyard is the neo-soul-folksy sound of Pickwick. They're playing tunes from their new album, Can't Talk Medicine, was recorded in a living room. DJ Howie Pyro also performs. Free; no reservations required. Parking is $10 after 5 pm.
Grease is the word at the Hollywood Bowl tonight. The Grease screening and singalonghas now become a Bowl tradition. The evening is hosted by Didi Conn ("Frenchy") with special guests Sha Na Na performing. The screening begins at 8:30 pm, but get there for early-side fun during the pre-show festivities.
The Hollywood Bowl also has another great show scheduled tomorrow night (Sunday) with Rodrigo y Gabriela—Mexico’s great acoustic guitar duo who count Pink Floyd to Paco de Lucía to Tool as influences. DeVotchka and L.A.-based Lord Huron (who we love!) opens. 7 pm.
The Psychedelic Furs play a free show tonight at 8 pm in Pershing Square as part of a Downtown Stage 2013 summer concert series. The lawn opens to the public at 7:30 pm. A Beer & Wine garden is open on site, but byob is not welcome. Badwater opens.
And finally, there's still time to head down to Temecula to catch some of the Lightning in a Bottle dance, music and lifestyle festival, presented by the folks at Do LaB. Nicolas Jaar headlines a stage tonight at 9 pm. Tickets: $110-$275 at the door.
