Dennis is No Menace
Pete Carroll and USC football took a sigh of relief this week as the sexual assault investigation into running back Hershel Dennis did not produce enough evidence, and no charges will likely be filed. As a result, Carroll reinstated Dennis.LAist feels Carroll handled the situation well. As USC's football coach, Pete Carroll cannot control everything his players do off-the-field, but if he's going to suspend one of his best players merely because he's under investigation, then perhaps other Trojans will think twice about putting themselves in stupid situations. After all, you don't want to miss an opportunity to impress the NFL scouts who now regularly frequent the Coliseum. As for Dennis, he says he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but that he didn't do anything. Apparently the district attorney agrees, so we can lay this case to rest.
The story on the field though will now become quite interes, as USC has arguably the deepest backfield in football. Reggie Bush looked like a Heisman candidate in the Trojans' win over Virginia Tech, while LenDale shouldered the load for 120 yards+ against Colorado State. And now an incredible athlete like Hershel Dennis is thrown back into the mix? LAist wonders if there are enoujgh footballs to go around, but offensive coordinator Norm Chow and Carroll always seem to make everything work out with USC's extraordinary depth.
