Recently minted Daytona 500 Champion Jamie McMurray dropped into L.A. as part of a whirlwind media tour leading up to Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Auto Club 500 in Fontana. McMurray, who pilots the #1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet, has been documenting his somewhat amusing La-La land adventures, which have included numerous media obligations, via Twitter.

Thursday, he joined Los Angeles City Controller and “Pothole Queen” Wendy Greuel and Auto Club Speedway president Gillian Zucker on the steps of City Hall to celebrate “Auto Club Speedway Day in L.A.” Following the proclamation, McMurray took to the streets on a double-decker bus to tour the metropolis with racing fans and get a taste of the city (literally). Stops included L.A. Live, where he spent some time with former L.A. Laker Mychal Thompson and radio partner Andrew Siciliano, and the famed King Taco in East Los Angeles for lunch with boxing champ Israel Vasquez.
