If you don't mind the wind, it is a vacation paradise. Santa Rosa Island boasts miles of white sand beaches, rare torrey pine forests and beautiful scenery throughout. It's the second largest island off California's coast and is one of the five within Channel Islands National Park. (if you've got 3 minutes and 30 seconds, check out this amazing photo slideshow of the island).

But now a relatively unknown gubernatorial candidate (well, not anymore!) wants to send pedophiles on a two-hour boat ride from Ventura to the island, thus making way for the third Snake Plissken movie (you know, Escape from New York, Escape from Los Angeles). And candidate Douglas Hughes doesn't just want to dump these criminals there, he has a whole vision for how this would play out, as Curbed LA finds.

"The first of pedophiles to go to the island would be a lead team for 'their society' such as police, fire personnel, judges, fish and game agents, forest rangers, ranchers, farmers, building contractors, surveyors, and the like to establish the 'Island' community," says Hughes on his website. "This lead team will be responsible for creating a master plan for the 'Island.'"

Hughes has a lot of other ideas, too. One includes having the state sell drugs confiscated in raids for half the price of street value. Hughes will face Jerry Brown and a number of other candidates on the June 8th Primary.
