Man Who Killed His Ex And Hid Her Body in Kitty Litter Gets 11 Years in Prison
The man convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend then stashing her remains in a trash container full of kitty litter has been handed down his sentence, and will serve 11 years in prison, reports City News Service.
Isaac Campbell, 37, was convicted last month of voluntary manslaughter in the 2007 killing of Liya "Jessie" Lu.
Campbell was found guilty of killing Lu, then putting her body in the cat litter and passing off the container to a buddy to store. The friend, who'd heard on the news Campbell's ex was missing, was suspicious and opened the container. After rifling through the kitty litter the friend discovered Lu's remains inside a plastic bag within the container.
Lu's remains were badly decomposed, however, which left authorities unable to determine her cause of death.
Initially Campbell was acquitted in a jury trial in December 2011 of first-degree murder; that same jury deadlocked on a second-degree murder charge. His June 2012 conviction was a retrial on the lesser charge of manslaughter.
