Murder in Silver Lake
The body of 24-year-old James Hyunwoo Kang was found on the sidewalk in the 2800 block of Riverside Drive on Christmas evening, just after 6 PM. Detectives believe the shooting may have been narcotics related, but they could not elaborate on what evidence they found. Kang was shot in the upper body and died at the scene.

Man with a Knife in San Pedro
Around 12:40 a.m. a sergeant and a police officer from the Harbor Police Station answered reports of a man with a knife trying to break into units at a San Pedro apartment, located at 704 South Pacific Avenue. One man was stabbed and when being escorted by police down the stairs, the victim's roommate came running down the stairs being chased by his former roommate with a butcher knife. Rookie Officer Eber Mancia fired his gun, stopping the assailant, who was taken to the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he died one hour later. All injuries sustained by the victims were minor.
