Images of James Holmes, the 24-year-old Southern California native suspected of opening fire inside an Aurora, Colorado movie theater at a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" early Friday morning, began to circulate later that same morning, however the public did not get a look at the young man until he appeared in court this morning. Now Holmes' booking photo has been released, showing the alleged gunman with his dyed orange hair and wide (and wild?) eyed look.

Holmes, who is expected to be formally arraigned next Monday, has been in police custody since his arrest at the scene early Friday. Authorities in Colorado have been terse-lipped regarding details about the suspect, and while law enforcement sources have offered details about what Holmes said to cops--like he "was The Joker"--today reports indicate Holmes is keeping quiet.

We do know that the young man hails from San Diego, where his family still resides. He graduated from UC Riverside, and had been pursuing a PhD in neuroscience in Colorado up until recently, when he voluntarily withdrew from matriculation.

A news broadcast today noted that Holmes has virtually no social media presence of his own, however on Friday what appears to be his profile on an adult dating site surfaced.
