An actor who played a supporting role in the comedy The 40-Year-Old Virgin is a 45-year-old man who was given a life sentence yesterday for his role in a stabbing and slashing attack on his ex-girlfriend, the Daily News reports.

Shelley Malil was convicted in San Diego for a 2008 attack that occurred when he showed up at his then-girlfriend Kendra Beebe's home, and found her with another man. Malil's rage was unleashed on Beebe, and he attacked her with a knife, stabbing her over 20 times, and causing "punctured lungs and wounds to her neck, chest, back and arms."

Malil expressed remorse, however Beebe told the court Malil's testimony was a lie, and that he was not a particularly effective actor while on the stand. Malil, who played a co-worker of star Steve Carell in "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," will be eligible for parole in 14 years.
