One person was killed and eleven were injured after a car plowed into a house where a prayer group meeting was behind held Wednesday night. The maroon Buick Regal was speeding south on a residential street in the Harbor Gateway area when it crashed into the home's living room just after 8 p.m., according to ABC 7.

A representative from the LAPD's South Traffic Division told LAist that the driver, who is believed to be a woman, ran away on foot and remains at large. According to a Los Angeles Fire Department release, eight of the injured parties were hospitalized, and five of them had serious injuries.

The L.A. Times reports that the worshippers in the house ranged in age from their 40s to 80s, and that several victims were trapped in the car's wreckage when firefighters first arrived on scene. A neighbor told the Times that the home's occupant, a retired woman, is a devout Catholic who regularly hosted prayer groups for friends and neighbors.
