A bicyclist was hit by an off-duty LAPD officer on his way to work this morning.

The crash happened around 6:15 a.m., Thursday morning, just south of downtown by the intersection of Central Avenue and Washington Boulevard. The bicyclist was "seriously injured," according to City News Service, and taken to a hospital.

LAPD told NBC 4 that the off-duty officer "is pretty rattled" from the collision. The officer was driving a private car at the time, and aerial footage shows the bicycle's rear wheel was badly bent as a result of the crash.

The crash is under investigation.
