Colon Cancer

Arte Moreno has been getting a lot of praise for opening up the checkbook this offseason, but teams like the Mets, Orioles, Rangers, and Dodgers could tell you that spending money does not always guarantee success. You have to spend wisely.
So while Vladimir Guerrero is making Moreno a SoCal icon, LAist wants to know why the Angels haven't been criticized for the acquisition of Bartolo Colon? By any measure, Anaheim overpaid for the pitcher and his ever-expanding wasteline. It's as if Colon is spending his $12 million a year on the right to say "Super Size Me" every time he walks into McDonald's. Colon was rocked in yet another start yesterday and his ERA has ballooned proportionally with his stomach--now at 6.17.
In the meantime, as Colon becomes a liability, Ramon Ortiz was bounced from the rotation upon Aaron Sele's return, and is now demanding a trade. When Jose Lima or Wilson Alvarez get moved to the bullpen, they talk about doing whatever is best for the team, but Ortiz cares more about himself than helping Moreno's Angels win a World Series.
However, LAist does sympathize with Ortiz somewhat. After a rough start, he has pitched better lately than Colon and even John Lackey. But Colon's struggles and Ortiz's whining adds a somewhat ignored slant to J.A. Adande's proclaimation that the Angels are Southern California's "A Team."
