Thanks to the Astros and Diamondbacks struggles, the Dodgers are the hottest team in baseball. The Azul have now won eight straight, 14 of 15, and eight consecutive road games.But while the Dodgers sport the third-best record in baseball, ESPN.com's Darren Rovell came out with an article pondering if the Angels had passed the Dodgers in LA. "Big Nasty" Joe McDonnell said as much on 710 AM recently.
But LAist believes rumors of the Dodgers demise are greatly exaggerated. While we're impressed with Arte Moreno's tenure so far, the Dodgers have a much better record, draw slightly better, and Sports Illustrated showed that Dodgers fans outnumber Angels by 10% in SoCal.
You can't kill tradition so easily. Even six years of Fox ownership didn't prevent the Dodgers from drawing 3 million fans. And Frank McCourt has not really had a chance to show what he can do. What we do know is that with the Dodgers and Angels 2-3 in attendance and both expected to draw better than 3.3 million, SoCal is the baseball capital of the world. Two-baseball team locales New York, Chicago, and the San Francisco Bay Area have never even come close to that kind of support.
