Two brothers were shot dead as they played basketball in a East Los Angeles park.

Around 11 a.m. on Sunday, Juan "Johnny" Aguilar and Antonio "Tony" Aguilar were playing in Ruben Salazar Park in East Los Angeles when they were approached by a man, woman, and a boy on the court. After a brief conversation, the man pulled out a gun and shot both brothers multiple times. Benito Sandoval, who was at a friend's house across the street from the park told KTLA that he heard at least five shots.

One of the brothers was pronounced dead at the scene and the other died at the hospital.

Family members told ABC 7 that the brothers grew up in the neighborhood but had moved to Littlerock in the Antelope Valley, near Palmdale. "They would always come here every weekend and play basketball," their cousin, Ryan Aguilar, told CBS Los Angeles.

Witnesses told authorities that they gunman was a heavyset Hispanic man, and the woman he was with was also heavyset.
