Boxer, Villaraigosa Appear at Labor Rally at City Hall
Thousands of union workers gathered on the south lawn of City Hall yesterday as part of a rally organized by the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, according to the LA Times. Addressing the crowd were several high-profile local politicians, including US Senator Barbara Boxer and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
The goal of the rally was to give voice to the issue of California's 12.3% unemployment rate, however "what was billed as a jobs rally was laced with heavy criticism for the Republicans running for governor and senator, Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina."
Encouraging those gathered to take part in seeing to it that the incumbent Dem Boxer defeat Fiorina and that Democrat Jerry Brown beat out Whitman by participating in campaigning this fall, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka also lobbed criticisms on the two Republican candidates.
