Body Found Hanging Off Balboa Pier In Newport Beach
A body was found hanging off Balboa Pier in Newport Beach early Friday morning.Around 6:30 a.m. police received a 911 call saying that a male body was found hanging off the pier. Coroner's officials are now investigating the incident, and few details are available at the moment. Sergeant Peter Carpentieri told the O.C. Register. that Newport Beach police are treating the case as an "apparent suicide."
Maintenance worker Martin Serna, who was emptying trash cans in the area of Balboa Pier, says he saw a man "pacing" before jumping over. The man jumped not long before his body was reported, says the L.A. Times. Serna said the police removed the body by lowering it into a boat after they were unsuccessful at pulling it up.
Last week, up the beach by the Newport Pier, the body of a pregnant pit bull was floating in the ocean with a cinderblock tied to its leg.
