Bibby's Trojan Horse

USC basketball is about to take another blow as Rodrick Stewart is reportedly likely to be ruled academically ineligible for the fall semester. This is yet another sore spot for Henry Bibby, whose USC program should be much better.
While he did reach the Elite 8 once, Bibby has became infamous for berating players and holding grudges with them for not taking orders. While that may be because of Bibby's nonsensical eccentricities, here's a thought: maybe it's because Bibby recruits dumb players who cannot follow directions.
In addition to Stewart's academic problems, the article reports that point guard recruit Gabe Pruitt is taking summer school in order to raise his GPA and be eligible for the fall season. And LAist remembers when former star Sam Clancy had a 1.9 GPA, but USC claimed it was 2.0 when you rounded up (he was ineligible for the Wooden Award). USC doesn't need to be Stanford or Duke, but it's a solid academic institution that deserves decent student-athletes.
Bibby now seems to be losing everyone. He put all of his chips into Robert Swift, who left for the NBA before ever wearing Cardinal and Gold. And in two years he's lost great assistants in Curtis Townsend and Marvin Menzies to Miami and UNLV, respectively.
It's amazing this guy was ever considered for the Lakers job. It must have been his LA Times column which magically transformed him from aloof to media friendly.
