Man Arrested For Shooting Death Of 1-Year-Old Girl
A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 1-year-old in Compton. On Tuesday afternoon, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department announced that they had arrested 23-year-old Ray Howard Patterson in connection to the death of 1-year-old Autumn Johnson. On February 9, Johnson was shot while she was in her crib inside a converted garage at a home on the 300 block of North Holly Avenue. Investigators believe Patterson is the gunman, but Detective Todd Anderson told the L.A. Times that investigators are still looking for the getaway driver who helped Patterson flee the scene in a blue Impala.
According to a release from the sheriff's office, Patterson was arrested on Monday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. near Bullis Road and Rosecrans Avenue in Compton.
Authorities believe that the shooting was gang-related, and that Patterson may have been targeting somebody else who lived in the converted garage with Autumn. NBC 4 reports that Autumn's father admitted to being a former gang member.
