Weekend (and Beyond) Food Stuff: You In the Kitchen Edition

The next few days are all about classes aimed at getting folks in the kitchen and their hands dirty in preparation for holiday feats and foodie gift-making. Check out some of these holiday how-tos:
SATURDAY DECEMBER 3 & SUNDAY DECEMBER 4
Sur La Table on Third is offering two baking courses this weekend. On Saturday at 10:00 AM you can join in to learn how to make blue ribbon apple pie, best-ever individual pumpkin pies, blue ribbon pecan pie and apple and pear dumplings. Then on Sunday at 11:00 AM the Sur La Table staff will teach students how to make chocolate ginger chewy cookies, walnut bars, chocolate-dipped brown sugar and espresso shortbread and cream cheese brownie bits as well as gift-wrapping an presentation techniques. Each class is $65 and requires pre-registration through the Sur La Table website.

TUESDAY DECEMBER 6
Italy's Snaidero Kitchen & Design has invited renowned chef Celestino Drago to demonstrate the joys of fine Italian holiday cuisine in the exquisite setting of their West Hollywood showroom. Participants enjoy tastings of all preparations along with complimentary wines and mineral waters throughout this demonstration class. On the menu: Cappesante con Speck, Brodetto di Funghi Morelle e Carciofi (Jumbo scallops wrapped with speck in morel mushroom and artichoke broth), Lasagnette Bianchi e Neri con Salsa d'Aragosta (Black and white lasagna with lobster sauce), Orata Mediterranea in Crosta di Patate e Vegetali Gratinati (Mediterranean snapper with crispy potato and vegetable gratin), Budino di Panettone e Nutella con Salsa al Cioccolato (Panettone and Nutella bread pudding with chocolate sauce)--and you'll have to admit it sounds extremely indulgent and tantalizing in Italian, no?
The cost is $100 per person, and class size is extremely limited. Please register early by calling Valeria Basso at 310-516-8499. Street parking is available on Robertson Boulevard.
