It’s time for the Cinefamily’s annual Labor Day BBQ & The Five Minutes Game tonight at 6 pm at the Silent Movie Theatre. Here’s how it works: They play five minutes of 15 movies that you’ve probably never seen before (and many not available on DVD) and the audience votes on what movie they want screened to watch in its entirety. To kick off the evening, the Cinefamily will show a short doc its own creation, which follows the crew as they scour thrift stores & mom 'n pop video shop for Five Minutes Game VHS fodder. Bring something to cook on our grill, too. Tickets are $10.

There’s a lot of debate about health care reform, and here’s your chance to get informed and involved and have a little fun. The SEIU is holding a free Healthy Works + Film + Fair + Action event at the Downtown Independent Theater today. The event is free and offers three screenings (including those with Chinese and Spanish subtitles) of Michael Moore's documentary film, Sicko, each followed by panel discussions led by healthcare experts and special guests. There’s also free health screenings, giveaways and a chance to participate in PSA shoots and action kiosks to message public officials, friends and family. Movie screenings are at 10 am, 12:30 pm and 3 pm.

Admission to LACMA is free all day today, thanks to Target. There will be additional “Music in the Gardens of Pompeii” activities from 12:30-3:30 pm, featuring Italian folk music performances by Musicantica.
