Pencil This In: Cinema Speakeasy's Reality Bite Drink-Along, Theatre West's Free Play Reading Series and Cause on the Rocks

Theatre West Writers’ Series presents rehearsed play readings of new and developing works by the company’s resident writers. On the program tonight are: “Favorable Company: A Trilogy” by Kent Hamilton. Tonight at 8 pm. Free and open to the public. FILM*
Cinema Speakeasy is a monthly showcase of indie films in various locations around LA, and as the organization’s name implies, there’s hootch involved, too. There’s an anniversary party/screening for Cinema Speakeasy tonight at the Echo Park Film Center. Reality Bites will be screened while audience members play the Reality Bites Drink-Along. 7:45 pm. Tickets are $5, which goes to the nonprofit Film Center--and toward drinks and cups.
DRINKS
The monthly mixer Cause on the Rocks is at the Viceroy Santa Monica tonight from 7-10pm for a mix of cocktails and causes. Causecast has partnered with the Viceroy to support the Weingart Center Association, a nonprofit that combats poverty and homelessness. For the month of August, the hotel will donate 100% of the proceeds from their drink of the month, the Lychee Martini (mix of Russian standard vodka, housemade lychee syrup, white cranberry juice and fresh lychee), to the organization. Music by DJ Brazilia.
THEATER
The Antaeus Company's 5th biennial ClassicsFest continues tonight with Arcadia by Tom Stoppard. The staged work-in-process, directed by Andrew Traister, combines “art and science, chaos and order, intellect and passion, high wit and low comedy.” 8 pm tonight through Thursday at Deaf West Theatre. $10.
