The American Voices series welcomes authors Dennis Lehane and Tom Franklin, who’ll be in a conversation moderated by Carolyn Kellogg of the LA Times. 7:30 pm. They’ll be discussing their books Moonlight Mile and Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter, respectively. Admission: $20 without the book; $32 admission with a copy of Moonlight Mile; $30 admission with a copy of Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter; and $50 admission with a copy of both books. Got all that?

PERFORMANCE
Actress/musician Gwendoline Yeo (Desperate Housewives) wrote and stars in the one-woman show Laughing with My Mouth Wide Open. She humorously traces her family’s journey from Singapore to America accompanies herself on the Chinese long zither (“gu-zheng"). We bet on a few General Hospital references because she perfected her American accent by watching that and other soaps. 8 pm at El Centro Theatre. Tickets: $22.50-$30.00.

MINDSHARE LA
It’s time for another installment of Mindshare LA—where you enrich your brain while marinating it cocktails. On the program tonight at the Downtown Independent are presentations on “Creating the Metaverse,” “Code, Cloth + Culture: Imagining Tomorrow's Wardrobe” and “Tackling Nature Defiancy Through Adventure.” Installations, entertainment, networking also abound. Tonight’s festivities begin at 7 pm with cocktails and networking, and the official program begins at 8:30 pm. Tickets: $30.

Tonight NewFilmmakers LA holds its monthly screening program and premieres both short films and one feature at the Sunset Gower Studios. The documentary program begins at 5:30 pm; the first short film program is at 6:45 pm and the second short program begins at 8 pm. The feature film Watch Out For Slick (dir. Herb Linsey) begins at 9:15. There are receptions before each screening, Q&As with casts and crews and an after party following each program with sounds by DJ SHY, DJ DON P and full bar throughout the evening. Tickets are $6.
