Pencil This In: August Music Residencies, a Dance J.A.M. Session and Paul Schrader in Person for 'The Canyons'

The Cooling Time begins its Monday night August residency tonight at the Silverlake Lounge. Also on the bill are The Silver Lake Chorus, Nature Girl and Billie Jack. Doors and show at 7 pm. Free. The show is 21+.'
The Janks begin a month-long residency at the The Satellite in Silverlake beginning tonight. The band cites the Everly Bros to Led Zeppelin as influences and the group has Hollywood roots in its lineup, including the sons of Adrian Zmed (TJ Hooker) and son of Lemmy of Motorhead. Also on the bill are King Washington, The Herbert Bail Orchestra and The Lucky Lonely. $2 Well Drinks/PBR + $5 speciality cocktails 6-9pm.
The Ford Amphitheatre hosts a free J.A.M. Session tonight at 7 pm focusing on contemporary dance. Join members of the Complexions Contemporary Ballet as they lead participants through the fundamentals of contemporary dance, from classical and modern to improvisation and free stylin.' The music will range from Chopin to Stevie Wonder to U2 mix with Bruno Mars to Rihanna and Robin Thicke. For all levels and ages with some dance background. Free, but reservations recommended.
UCLA Film & Television Archive and UCLA Department of Film, Television and Digital Media have teamed up for the film series Hardcore: The Films of Paul Schrader, which ends tonight at 7:30 pm with a special screening of The Canyons. If you’ve been living under a rock, the film stars James Deen and Lindsay Lohan. Schrader will be in person tonight for the screening at the Billy Wilder Theater. Tickets: $10.
SCHOOL NIGHT MUSIC
It’s a School Night welcomes live music and DJ sets from both up-and-coming and seasoned artists every Monday night at Bardot in Hollywood. On tap tonight are live performances by Rudimental, Grizfolk, The Melodic and Mother Falcon. DJ sets by Gorgon City and Roosevelt. Free with RSVP for those 21+; $10 for 18+ with RSVP. Doors at 8 pm.
