Here's what's happening tonight in LA—Matthew Lillard presents his film Fat Kid Rules the World; storytellers talk about grudges at The Moth; ABC previews its new shows at the Paley Center; and The Muir Project collective shows some of its work at REI in Manhattan Beach. Read on for all the details.

FILM*
Cinefamily presents the free screening of Fat Kid Rules the World, a film helmed by the Matthew Lillard, best known as Shaggy on Scooby Doo. The film stars Jacob Wysocki (from the Sundance hit Terri) as an obese teen struggling against the world. The film focuses on unlikely friendships and how rock’n’roll can save lives. To attend tonight’s screening, you must pre-register for "first-come, first-serve" admission (only one registration per person). Current Cinefamily members get first entry. Registration does not guarantee a seat, so arrive at least 30 minutes before showtime. No admittance after the film has started. There will be a Q&A with Lillard after the film. 7:30 pm.

THE MOTH
Got a five-minute story on holding grudges? Is revenge bitter or sweet? Or a little of both? Then head to Busby’s East tonight to put your hat in the ring for The Moth’s storytelling evening. Remember, notes and standup routines are verboten. Doors at 7 pm, stories at 7:30 pm. $16 early admittance tickets, $8 at the door. (This is a 21+ venue.)

FILM
REI in Manhattan Beach presents A Night with The Muir Project tonight at 7 pm. The Muir Project is a collective of LA-based multimedia artists who filmed their hiking adventure (219 miles in 25 days) on the John Muir Trail. Members of the collective discuss the filming of their upcoming feature documentary Mile... Mile & A Half and show photos from the film with a musical performance by LA’s Opus Orange, whose music is featured in the film and film trailers. 6:30-8:30 pm.

TV
The PaleyFest Fall TV Preview Parties continue tonight at 6 pm with the celebration and screenings of the new ABC TV lineup. At 7 pm, there’s a preview screening of Scandal, followed by a preview panel with members of the cast and creative team at 7:45 pm. At 8:30 pm, the new shows Malibu Country and The Neighbors will be screened, followed by a panel at 9:15 pm. The evening closes with a screening of Nashville at 10 pm, starring Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere. (We’re most looking forward to hearing Britton’s Southern twang again—long live Tami Taylor!)
