There’s an opening reception tonight at La Luz de Jesus Gallery for artists Bryan Cunningham, Brice Eichelberger, Bruce Eichelberger, Jessica Goldfinch Jason Houchen, Chris Roberts-Antieau, Gin Stevens and John Whipple. The exhibition runs through Jan. 2. Reception: 8-11 pm. Also, you can do some pretty cool Hanukkah/Christmas shopping done at Wacko/Soap Plant to boot. COMEDY Opening Night: The Improvised Musical celebrates its 600th show at the iO West Theater tonight at 9 pm. Five cast members and an accompanist get a title suggestion for a faux musical and then perform an hour-long, made-up-on-the-spot show, with music, lyrics, comedy and dance. Tickets: $10.

The Traveling Carnival Freakshow is a holiday-themed variety/theater show featuring a mix of theatre, dance, burlesque and cabaret. The story is loosely based on the legend of The Nutcracker, but with a dark, magical twist set within the confines of a traveling freakshow. It opens tonight at 9 pm at the Eclectic Company Theatre. Runs through Dec. 19. Tickets: $15.

There’s a Delving into Deep Space program and hike tonight at the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve tonight at 7 pm. Join volunteer astronomer Pat for an evening of star gazing and a moderate ½-mile hike. The free program lasts two hours. Parking is $3. Meet at the Victory Trailhead in Calabasas.
