The Reel Talk film series with Stephen Farber screens Micmacs tonight at the Wadsworth Theatre. It’s the latest film from Amelie and A Very Long Engagement director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. The film is a whimsical comedy about the battle between a group of misfits and an international arms manufacturer. Director and co-writer Jean-Pierre Jeunet will appear in person.
There’s a launch party at 826LA and Stories books in Echo Park for McSweeney's Issue #34 tonight at 8 pm. Pick up your reserved copy of McSweeney's Quarterly ($20+tax), and stay for food, drinks, discussions and signings with contributors Nick McDonell and Teddy Wayne. Musical guest: The Blasting Company! The latest issue weighs in under 400 pages, and comes in its own custom-made double-sleeve. Proceeds from sales go to 826LA.
The Westside edition of The Moth storytelling takes place tonight at Air Conditioned Supper Club in Venice. The Moth provides a stage and a microphone, and people are selected to tell--not read--their five-minute stories. These are true stories ripped from the pages of your lives. Tonight’s theme is On the Road. Doors open at 7 pm and the stories start at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $7.
Proving that there’s nothing to be embarrassed about if you watch reality TV, there’s a release party tonight for Anna David’s new book Reality Matters: 19 Writers Come Clean About the Shows We Can’t Stop Watching at Les Deux tonight at 8 pm. David and some of the book’s authors will give a reading, and some of the celebs they’ve written about will be in attendance including Charlie O’Connell (The Bachelor), Jennifer Gimenez (Sober House), Will Gilbert (The Real World: Hollywood), Mike Malin (Big Brother), and others as they answer audience questions and dish about their steamy behind-the-scenes experiences. This event is free and open to the public.
