Los Angeles Theatre Works (LATW) presents a sci-fi double-bill of War of the Worlds and The Lost World at the Skirball at 8 pm tonight. When Orson Welles’ performed a 1938 broadcast of War of the Worlds in 1938, he caused a nationwide panic -- unlike the Tom Cruise movie version. Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World follows a scientific expedition deep into the Amazon jungle - back into the time of dinosaurs and cave men. All performances are recorded to air on LATW's nationally syndicated radio theater series. Here’s the uber-geeky tidbit though: the performances are directed by John de Lancie aka “Q” from Star Trek: TNG.
Tonight the 7Lightningbolt* Fashion Show takes to the runway at Club Façade (formerly Club Ivar) in Hollywood. The designers of experimental clothing will present their latest collection of handmade pieces made from deconstructed and revamped vintage clothing. Yes, we know this is a blatant PR gimmick, but it’s one that sounds like a total blast. The Audi Driving Experience takes over Hollywood Park today through Sunday. The automaker is unveiling the Audi Q5 and is providing a hands-on test drive for adults and a virtual car experience for the kids. It’s free.
It’s that time of the month again. The monthly Downtown Art Walk showcases the galleries, restaurants and other venues of the area. New galleries this month include the Federal Art Project, Rooftop Gallery and the Downtown Women's Center's new resident art gallery. There’s a comedy show at 9 pm at the Alexandria Hotel at 9pm, and restaurants like Tiara Cafe and PItfire Pizza have Art Walk specials.
